The goal: to make the ‘invisible’ visible for farmers by improving understanding of emissions\, their impacts\, and how science can guide better management.Learn about the study’s role in Canada’s GHG footprint analysis\, explore real-time monitoring tools\, and discover how this research is helping bridge the gap between science and on-farm practice. \n\n\n\n7:45 pm – Tour of Adaptive Nitrogen Trails with Ken Musselman and the Ontario Soil Network\n\n\n\nApproximately 6387 4th Line East\, Elora ON N0B 1S0Join the Ontario Soil Network (OSN) and host Ken Musselman for an evening focused on fine-tuning fertilizer rates and digging into the details of nitrogen management.Take a tour of Ken’s adaptive nitrogen trials and check out his no-till equipment in action. It’s a great opportunity to see innovative practices up close and connect with fellow farmers and agronomists for a hands-on\, practical discussion about all things nitrogen.Ken’s trials are part of the Adaptive Nitrogen Trials\, a collaborative project between OSN\, the Ecological Farmers Association of Ontario (EFAO)\, and the Fertilizer Canada Sustainability (FCS) initiative.

DESCRIPTION:Have you been struggling with slugs and slug pressure? Join us on June 4th at 8:30am -10:00am (EST) to talk all things slugs with Dr. John Tooker and Tracey Baute. \n\n\n\nDr. Tooker’s is an Associate Professor of Insect Ecology and Extension Specialist in the Department of Entomology at The Pennsylvania State University. Dr. Tooker’s research group studies relationships among plants\, invertebrate herbivores\, and natural enemies to understand factors that regulate populations of herbivorous insects and slugs. The long-term goal of his research is to exploit ecological interactions for sustainable insect pest management. \n\n\n\nTracey Baute is a Field Crops Entomologist with OMAFA. With over 19 years experience in research and tech transfer in emerging pests and invasive species\, Bt corn and insect resistance management\, and most recently the risks that neonicotinoid seed treatments pose to pollinators during corn planting. \n\n\n\nThis event is funded in part by Farmers for Climate Solutions FaRM Program

SUMMARY:Talbot River Healthy Environment Initiative Farm Tour with Danielle Marcoux-Hunter
DESCRIPTION:Please RSVP here by August 19th\, 2023 \n\n\n\nWhen: Friday\, August 25th from 9:00 am to 2:30 pm (Catered packed lunch will be served) \n\n\n\nWhere: Charter bus will board at Ken Reid Conservation Area (277 Kenrei Rd Lindsay) – meet at 8:45 am \n\n\n\nCost: Free \n\n\n\nWhat: This farm tour is intended to celebrate the important work farmers are doing to improve water quality through the implementation of agricultural Best Management Practices (BMPs) in Kawartha Lakes. Attendees will visit 4 demonstration farms to learn from local farmers and conservation staff about diverse farm projects that aim to improve water quality in the Talbot River subwatershed\, and ultimately downstream in Lake Simcoe. \n\n\n\nThe Talbot River Healthy Environment Initiative is a Kawartha Conservation project to improve water quality throughout the Upper Talbot River subwatershed. By partnering with local farmers\, Kawartha Conservation implemented BMPs that protect and enhance riparian areas – the transitional areas between water surfaces and uplands. The BMPs we will be seeing in this tour include manure storage\, livestock exclusion fencing\, solar powered alternated watering systems\, vegetative buffers and windrows.
