SUMMARY:Exploring Nitrogen Strategies On-Farm with Norm Lamothe
DESCRIPTION:The Ontario Soil Network (OSN) and Ecological Farmers Association of Ontario (EFAO) are excited to collaborate on an event hosted by Norm Lamothe at Woodleigh Farms to showcase various Nitrogen Management Trials he is working on. \n\n\n\nAdaptive Nitrogen Trials (ANT): A collaborative initiative between the OSN\, EFAO\, and Farmers for Climate Solutions (FCS) which supports farmers in trialing the profitability of various N application rates in corn following a cover crop. \n\n\n\nPlant Available Nitrogen (PAN): A continuing trial with the EFAO looking at how cover crops contribute to plant available nitrogen in the following growing season. \n\n\n\nLiving Lab Ontario (LL – ON): is a five-year innovation project that brings together farmers\, organizations\, researchers\, and other experts to co-develop\, test\, and evaluate beneficial management practices (BMPs) that address climate change challenges in livestock and cropping systems. \n\n\n\nThis event is a KSE for Nitrogen Management and a CEU for Nutrient Management (2). \n\n\n\nThis event is funded in part by Farmers for Climate Solutions FaRM Program

SUMMARY:Wellington Soil & Crop Twilight Tour featuring Ken Musselman
DESCRIPTION:SPONSORED BY WELLINGTON COUNTY SOIL & CROP IMPROVEMENT ASSOCIATION \n\n\n\n\n\nIf you would like to pre-register (not required but would be great to get numbers for refreshment) you may TEXT Krista Bates at 519-766-8252 or email her at scia-wellington@ontariosoilcrop.org \n\n\n\n6:30 pm – Tour of the Living Labs On-farm Research Trials\n\n\n\nJust past 7812 Sideroad 5\, Fergus ON N1M 2W3Join us for an exclusive look at an innovative on-farm greenhouse gas (GHG) monitoring project underway at a commercial dairy farm in Fergus\, Ontario.Launched in May 2024\, this trial compares conventional practices with improved\, co-developed approaches to measure real-time nitrous oxide (NO) and carbon dioxide (CO)₂₂ emissions. The goal: to make the ‘invisible’ visible for farmers by improving understanding of emissions\, their impacts\, and how science can guide better management.Learn about the study’s role in Canada’s GHG footprint analysis\, explore real-time monitoring tools\, and discover how this research is helping bridge the gap between science and on-farm practice. \n\n\n\n7:45 pm – Tour of Adaptive Nitrogen Trails with Ken Musselman and the Ontario Soil Network\n\n\n\nApproximately 6387 4th Line East\, Elora ON N0B 1S0Join the Ontario Soil Network (OSN) and host Ken Musselman for an evening focused on fine-tuning fertilizer rates and digging into the details of nitrogen management.Take a tour of Ken’s adaptive nitrogen trials and check out his no-till equipment in action. It’s a great opportunity to see innovative practices up close and connect with fellow farmers and agronomists for a hands-on\, practical discussion about all things nitrogen.Ken’s trials are part of the Adaptive Nitrogen Trials\, a collaborative project between OSN\, the Ecological Farmers Association of Ontario (EFAO)\, and the Fertilizer Canada Sustainability (FCS) initiative.
