The Leadership Challenge

The Soil Network is a soil-focused, farmer-to-farmer, social and educational network with a shared goal of improving Ontario’s Soils. The Leadership Challenge is a one year challenge to improve your leadership and speaking skills, grow your network and build your soil.

Being part of the Ontario Soil Network means peer support to those “early adopters” that innovate with wild ideas in their back fields; building the confidence to bring them to the road-side. This network emboldens the innovative individual and gives them a shared experience to support their efforts in reaching the majority, who are motivated the most by peers. By linking and supporting these individuals across the province under a common objective, they’re able to bring the resources of the whole organization back to their community networks in the individualized ways that are needed. The soil network supports the right people to be thought leaders within their communities because they will be the positive force that popularizes soil health in Ontario.

In the Leadership Challenge, our network mentors receive leadership and presentation skills training to host events, participate in advertisement campaigns, present at large agricultural events, participate in research and much more! In our pilot year, within 10 months, the Soil Network completed 80 speaking engagements reaching 6000 farmers & 2000 industry reps, 40 on-farm events reaching 700 farmers & 100 industry reps, 600 one-on-one conversations with farmers, 200 one-on-one conversations with industry reps, 1200 hours spent on research, 5000 hours spent on outreach. This year you can look forward to the #LetsTalkSoil ad campaign, a Real Soil Steward Soil Health School, partnered research with the Soil Network and LOTS more on-farm events and meetings.
