I’ve grown up farming. I went to UofG to further expand on this career. I’ve farmed full time since 2007. Our farm consists of caring for finishing hogs and broiler chickens and a fledgling herd of red limousine cattle. We cultivate corn soybeans and wheat. I like to try for a catch of red clover in the wheat, and or wheat volunteers; maybe try oat based cover crops after wheat; now with the benefit of some forage feed. Historically a conventionally tilled farm I have transitioned to fully no till over the last 7 years. The process has been successful. I like to do shop work and equipment modifications so upgrading our old planter to do the job it does has been rewarding. I am thankful for funding opportunities that made these changes an easier “sell” to my family and thankful for watching others in their successes in no till and for those who have dedicated research into equipment and processes to make no till a success. Transition to no till.
