What Is the Ontario Soil Network?

The Ontario Soil Network (OSN) is a peer-to-peer community of Ontario farmers committed to improving soil health through shared experience, on-farm innovation, and honest dialogue.

We're not a top-down program—we're a farmer-led initiative where insights are exchanged, not imposed. Together, we’re building healthier soils, stronger farms, and a more resilient future for agriculture in Ontario.

Your Path Into the Network

Join a Growing Movement—One Step at a Time

Each fall, OSN invites a new cohort of farmers to join the Network Challenge—our flagship program built around peer learning, experimentation, and leadership in soil health.

With support from experienced mentors and fellow farmers, participants choose a challenge that fits their operation. You might take a closer look at something you're already doing, explore a new approach, or even share your experience through one of our podcast episodes.

It’s not about reinventing the wheel—it’s about real-world trials, honest reflections, and contributing your story to a community that learns together.

Fueling Innovation on the Farm

The FIRE Program (Farmer Innovation & Research Ecosystem) supports farmers who want to push innovation forward—one field trial, prototype, or conversation at a time.

From focus groups and pilot projects to partnered R&D, FIRE helps farmers shape the future of agtech by making sure new ideas work where it matters most: in the field.
