Grew up on beef cow calf and feedlot farm, bought out the parents in 2012 with my wife, Dad still helps also have 2 FT employee. Now farm pedigree seed mostly, cereal, soy, hemp, cereal... about 1000 acres, also own a seed processing establishment and retail seed. Growing covercrops, some for seed, and retail are becoming much bigger part of our business. Dad still has 25 hobby cows, but I'm not so excited about expanding that again, would rather make a deal with neighbors to graze livestock. We sell a large amount of Rye seed for covers ON,QC,NY,PA,VT and have learned from others around us. Trying to add practices as much as possible to increase green cover time through the year. This past year started multi crop diverse mixes, broadcasting over soybeans. Planning to relay crop cereals this coming year, companion cropping mixes also in the works. We have a fleet of small plot equipment and do crop research for hire, also started using these assets to play with cover crop experiments. Hoping to use these skills to bring more knowledge to the region and assist others in implementing strategies on their farms.
