I am currently a Soil and Water Quality Technician with the LTVCA. My position requires me to work with landowners in order to develop and study BMP's to reduce nutrient loading into local waterways. I am also finishing up a Masters Degree at the University of Waterloo on using a filter product to remove phosphorus from surface and tile runoff from agricultural fields already using multiple BMP's. I have extensive experience working on research farms with Pioneer and BASF for seed and herbicide research. In addition I work closely with local landowners on their farms in my current position and in my masters work. I will approach this opportunity from the Extension Staff/ Researcher role as I am currently involved in both of those. Not being a landowner I do not have soil of my own. However in all of my work experiences and masters work I understand the value of having healthy soil. For summer work in Undergrad I was able to work on the BASF Research Farm outside of Guelph where I was able to farm test plots using conventional equipment in order to prepare the fields for pesticide trials. I was involved in all aspects of crop production and quickly learned how different crop types, tillage practices and fertilizer and herbicide application methods work in practice. through my schooling and work projects I have learned the importance of soil health and the number of ways and practices that can implemented in order to improve it.
