I grew up on the farm until I was almost 17 and went away for school; then I worked on the farm for 2 seasons; and now have been back for over 4 years and have taken over the farm. I farm with my slowly retiring parents and the occasional apprentice. We primarily do hay and pasture with the occasional garden or mixed grain patch. We have 65 workable acres. We farm 32 head of cattle, 6 draft horses, pastured chickens and pigs. - We have transitioned to primarily pasture/hay to keep from unnecessary tilage. We move our cattle daily using the holistic management grazing plan. My parents began implementing these changes in the mid 1990’s. We’ve learned that rotational grazing has improved our grass growth and quality. I've been farming since I was a child. My parents are still on the farm though "retired"... We have 65 workable acres, almost all of it is in permanent hay and pasture. We have a large family garden. We have cattle, pork, meat chickens, laying hens and draft horses.
